Help! Crazy computer display! Need help really bad
« on: January 20, 2006, 06:16:47 PM »
I was recently playing a free downloaded game, doom 95. This is a very old game so the resolution changes(i think).

I had played this game many times before but today the monitor flashed and came back on displaying a low quality sideways image. I can still use my computer but i have to turn my head sideways. Even the mouse moves inverted. I managed to fix the display quality but it is still sideways and my computer is acting slow.

PLEASE HELP!

Can you rotate it with your video card software?
I question what caused this to happen?
Is your computer free of nasties?

I have no clue about the video card thing. Like my name suggests, I am a computer retard. As for the viruses, spyware, I am running spysweeper and Norten Virus and they turn up nothing. I haven't ever really had a problem with 'nasties'.

Right click on your desktop & select Properties>Settings>Advanced and look around in there to rotate.

Click on the 2 links above for free online scans. (Do them both)
I'd do the scans first, but I know you won't.

All of the scans picked up nothing. I went to the advanded display properties and there is a lot of stuff about drivers and stuff like that but nothing, to my limited knowledge that could fix it.

      Thanks for the help.

Is this an Intel graphics adapter by chance? do you have the latest drivers? THis problem comes up from  time to time on the forum.

This may help. Let us know.

What if you boot in safe mode?  However you can, get to Windows Control Panel/System and see what it says for graphic adapter. What computer or motherboard make/model?

Hold down your Ctrl+Alt+upperArrow keys down at the same time and see what happens. If nothing try Ctrl+Alt+Right arrow

Ahem... System Restore... Start -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore. This will only revert settings, which seems to be your issue, and will not tamper with files. I suggest doing this ASAP. Also, because you say you don't know computers well, here's how it goes. Once you go to system restore, click on the dot next to "restore to an earlier time". Click Next. You will see a calendar. Pick the day and time. Make sure that you pick a time BEFORE the software was installed, so this will work. Click next. On this screen, make sure the date and time looks right, and click finish. The computer will now attempt to restart. You will see a progress meter just before it restarts. This bar may move rather slowly. Be patient. Once the computer restarts, things should be back to normal. Keep in touch.
