Military? I aced my asvab test and had my choice for anything and I wanted electronics. I was offered Electronics Warfare Specialist, I accepted this after asking what the job was and I said I wanted to be ground based because I didnt like flying. I was told I would be working on the ground designing and testing of missile systems and radio communications etc. I did research and saw that the recruiter lied to me. I would have been stuck in a military aircraft on missions to make sure that everything worked etc and NOPE thats not what I wanted and agreed to, and so I backed out before swearing in shortly after my physical.
https://www.airforce.com/careers/detail/special-operations-forces-personnel-recovery-integrated-electronic-warfare-systemsCareer? Self Taught Electronics, Degree in Computer Systems Management IT/MIS... Currently working as an ET with USPS and love my job. Landed my first Electronics Job a month after graduating High School in 1994 when on a double date and my girlfriend and her girlfriend brought their boyfriends with them. The women were talking like crazy and me and this other guy were just like ok when is this going to be over with. I then asked so what do you do for work. He said he worked in electronics, i said oh really! So I started talking about electronics and questioning him. Before we knew it we were out talking the women at the table and drawing electronic circuits on napkins and he asked me where i got my degree in electronics, i said I dont have a degree I am self taught. He asked me what my current job is and i said a video store dealing with tape rentals, he asked about what i was getting an hour which was $5.25 in 1994. He said how about $10 an hour to start at Allied Electronics starting Monday, I said sure and so I jumped right into the electronics job making almost twice as much money as before and I was successful with this job until paychecks started bouncing in which i had to leave that job and get a job that paychecks wouldnt bounce from. Next job was Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation in Electronics where I did a little of everything from manufacturing of PCBs and running the wave solder machine to working with engineering and testing new prototypes but main job was fixing automation electronics that customers returned from the field for service as well as new systems that failed in testing in which I'd chase down signals with an o-scope and schematics and fix them. I sort of self promoted myself at that job. I was a production tester and the service department had some issues. I brought in a spare 8088 computer from home and set it up on a bench for 9600 baud serial communications with automation controls which ran on DOS, and started fixing the other systems in the service department and boss came out and said what are you doing. I said helping out where help is needed. He was like, you know how to do this? I said yes, and he was surprised with no degree in electronics I was fixing the systems and was fast at it. So I got promoted to Electronics Technician with the service department and got a raise from 12.50 to $14.50 per hour in 1997 after starting with them in 1995.
