can't save in call of duty 4?!

Hi.

I recently purchased and installed Call of Duty 4 on my XP SP3 machine. After loading the game, everything seemed fine. Single player had a pretty good campaign. However, somewhere between two missions, i got an error: "cannot create hunkusage.dat". It would occur when the game began loading the next mission. However, i seem to have solved that problem by deleting hunkusage.dat in my installtion directory, and then allowing the game to re-create it when i next played it. That worked, and the missions were loading as normal.

but my problem now is....i can't save! I'd get through a whole bunch of missions, and save + quit. But the next time i run the game and click "resume", it goes all the way back to the last saved checkpoint before i previously received the hunkusage.dat error message

this might be confusing to understand, but say the error used to occur between mission A and B. Now, the error doesn't occur anymore, but when i try to resume my supposedly saved game, it takes me to the last saved checkpoint of mission A.

the problem at hand is really frustrating. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

although i am running the game with administrative privileges, the error still came up. But i managed to fix that problem by deleting then re-creating the hunkusage.dat file. My new problem is i can't save. Should i re-delete then re-recreate the hunkusage.dat file?

I am not entirely sure about that. But you could try uninstalling and re-installing the game again. As far as I know, the Call of Duty series usually give you an option of whether or not the delete the saved games.

I think that would be your best option, even though it takes so long to install again.

hmm, when u delete hunksage.dat(or what ever) do you end up at the beginning or where you left off?

i think you should make a new profile and start from the beginning and see if its cause is profile related or game related. if it isnt profile related, what i would do is make a copy of the profile and uninstall the game and all of its components. after that try a reinstall cod4, u should be set.

huh....funnily enough, right before i did a re-install, i decided to give the hunkusage.dat one last shot.

it worked. lol.

and when you delete hunkusage.dat, your game data is not erased.

hmmmm.....it's been a while, so i can't really remember. but i'm almost positive it's in the game's directory.
 i'll check as soon as i get a chance.

my friends he save the call duty 4 on her computer only and he can install right away but sometimes it was an error because some files are lacking in the games so that we find the patch file in the torrent sites.

Umm....Ok.

I would think you can download a patch from their website though.
