First of all, installing XP on a computer with 128MB of RAM doesn't make sense...

Here  is a link to a few thousand people who have had XP installs hiccup or not complete due to insufficient RAM...
      Decide for yourself.
As RAM is dirt cheap right now i don't even know why we are having this discussion...
      But carry on...

First you install Windows 98SE and get it running. Then you decide if it is wuoth installing Windows XP. Most likely your old Windows 98 CD is just lying around, so it would make sense to use it, you paid for it. But as for XP, the retail value is $149 and the OEM Disc is about $79. So, why even wast a COA on an old computer?

Here on this forum we do do endorse the idea of 'hacking' XP so that it will install on just any computer. Microsoft has a reasonable plan where you can get a decent refurbished old PC with a legal load of Windows XP sp2 on it for less the the cost of the retail XP. I am using one now. $132 with shipping. 1GB RAM P4 at 2.8 GHZ,  40GB drive. Had to add my own mouse, keyboard and monitor and a wireless network card.Works great, but does not make coffee. Mr Coffee does that.
