Issue:

Floppy tries reading disk when shutting down / starting computer.

Cause:

This issue can be caused by any of the below possibilities:

1. Standard floppy operation
2. Computer virus scanner

Solution:

Standard floppy operation

All computers with a standard floppy diskette drive will attempt to read the floppy as the computer is booting. This operation is normal as most computers have the floppy drive as the first bootable device. This causes the computer to look at the floppy drive to verify that there is no floppy diskette in the computer.

Computer virus scanner

If the computer is looking at the floppy disk drive as starting Windows or when the Windows is shutting down it is likely that the computer has a computer virus program installed onto the computer.

Many virus programs will scan the floppy drive for viruses before startup or shutdown as many viruses only infect a computer from a bootable diskette.
