How can I view a Microsoft Word document from MS-DOS?

Question:

How can I view a Microsoft Word document from MS-DOS?

Answer:

In order to view a Microsoft Word word document (*.doc) you need Microsoft Word, which is a Microsoft Windows program. Therefore, you cannot view a Microsoft Word document in MS-DOS.

You can however start the Microsoft Word document from a MS-DOS shell by typing "start myfile.doc" where myfile.doc is the name of the Microsoft Word document. This will start Microsoft Word with the myfile.doc open. Additional information about the start command can be found on our start command page.
