AI PC

An AI PC describes a computer with an NPU (neural processing unit) in addition to its CPU (central processing unit) and GPU (graphics processing unit). AI PCs were introduced in December 2023 with the introduction of the Intel Core Ultra, Intel's first PC platform to feature a built-in NPU. AMD also introduced its Ryzen 8040 Series processors with Ryzen AI NPUs. The NPU is a lot like a GPU, which is designed for processing graphics. However, the NPU handles AI (artificial intelligence) and ML (machine learning) tasks instead of graphics.

Before the AI PC, AI-related tasks were done in the cloud or handled slowly by the computer's CPU and GPU, which were not designed for AI tasks. As companies implement AI solutions into their products, the NPU will be required like a GPU is for gaming.
