Attenuation
Attenuation
is the process of reducing the amplitude or power of a signal without
distorting its waveform. This is done using a device called an attenuator,
which measures the amount of power reduction in decibels of relative power. In
the picture to the right, is an example of a
coaxial attenuator from Hewlett Packard.
