INI file

An INI file is an initialization file for software programs to store configuration information about the computer or program. Important .ini files such as the system.ini and win.ini are needed for earlier Microsoft Windows to operate properly.

Today, the use of .ini files in Microsoft Windows and Windows programs have been greatly replaced by the Windows Registry.
