TinyPNG is a service and product that reduces the file size of JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group), PNG (portable network graphics), and WEBP image files. It is available as an Adobe Photoshop plugin, WordPress plugin, and it also has an API (application programming interface) and CDN (content delivery network) for developers. How does TinyPNG work?
As an example, a 24-bit PNG supports up to 16.7 million color tones. With such a variety, an image may use hundreds of visually similar colors. TinyPNG uses a technique called "quantization," which reduces the sizes of images by combining similar colors to one. This reduction in the number of colors leads to a smaller file size as programs need to keep track of fewer tones.
