Voltage regulator
An
integrated circuit that takes an unregulated power source and regulates it to
the voltage of the voltage regulator. For example, you could have 12V of
unregulated power and using a 5V voltage regulator to decrease that voltage to
5V. In the picture to the right, is an example of a voltage regulator on a
computer motherboard.
