Wikipedia is a free online encyclopedia, structured as a wiki that anyone can edit. It was launched in 2001 by Larry Sanger and Jimmy Wales.
As of 2024, Wikipedia contains about 6.8 million articles in the English language. There are a total of 60.2 million pages overall, with about 11.3 percent of them being articles. Approximately 1.5 billion people visit Wikipedia every month.
Wikipedia is operated by the nonprofit Wikimedia Foundation.
