Information about the Lonely hearts Trojan Virus 

VIRUS INFORMATION

04/18/2001 - Written in Visual Basic 6.0 Lonely hearts is a Trojan Virus. Lonely hearts does not cause any data loss or corruption but instead sends itself frequently to users in the Windows Address Book.

SYMPTOMS

Sends e-mail frequently to users in Windows Address Book.

HOW TO DETECT VIRUS

This virus is spread through e-mail with the following:

Subject: Matcher
Attachment: Matcher.EXE 

METHOD OF REMOVAL

To remove this virus you must edit the registry. Ensure you are familiar with the registry and the potential risks if edited wrong. Additional information about the registry can be found on our registry page.

  1. Click Start / Run / type Regedit / click Ok
  2. Open the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
  3. Delete @="C:\Windows\matcher.exe"
  4. Reboot the computer
  5. Scan your computer using the latest dat file for your virus protection program.
