how to remove Buffalo's vitual drive
    « on: February 17, 2010, 06:11:45 AM »
    Dear all,

    Yesterday,
I bought a Buffalo 500GB exteranl HDD for backup of some important school project files, but for the first time I connected it to my PC,
it automatically created a virtual drive for me.

The External HDD was assigned an I Letter, and
the additional virtual drive it automatically created was assigned a J letter.

Since the external drive was used by me and not other users will access it,
I really don't need its built-in encryption function.
But matter what I do, the virtual drive just happens to exist in my PC whenever
I connect the Buffalo external HDD to my PC.

The virtual drive is also annoying,
but what I am concerned about is that I am not sure if
the virtual drive may cause damage to the files that have been backed up in the external HDD.
Do you know how to remove it?
I would really appreciate if you could help.

    Thank you

    Kitty

    1) Why is the virtual drive annoying?
    2) No, it cannot "cause damage to" files already backed up - or anything else
    3) The external drive should not be connected when you are not using it, so I really don't see with the issue is
    4) The virtual drive has to be created by some software that is loading when the external drive is connected. If it really bothers you that much, identify the software and stop it from running.

You should be able to do this in Disk Management...
Richt clik My Computer...select Manage...then Disk Management.
Find the drive...right clik it and select dis-mount.

    Re-boot to make sure it's not re-created.
