Sound card does not switch Automatically
    « on: February 21, 2010, 02:24:54 AM »
Ok I belive this topic should go under hardware, if I am wrong please advise me of where it should go.

I have two issues with my audio card I need help with
1st) My built in speakers are my Default sound source, when I plug head phones into the head phone jack or a HDMI cable into the HDMI port on the computer and my HDTV the computer will not automatically switch to using that sound option, I have to open up Control Panel>Sound and change the default sound option to the sound type I want to use, is there a way I can set this to automatically switch when I plug in a cable to another output?

2nd) When I am playing a game or watching a video online using my built in speakers as my Default sound source then I decide to plug in a pair of head phones the sound will not switch, it will only play through the built in spekers, I have to close the program, go to Control Panel>Sound change my Default sound source to head phones then restart the game or movie. I do believe these problems are basically the same.

    I have a Gateway laptop
    Vista 32-bit OS
NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GTS video card
I could not find the actual name of the sound card in Device Manager so if this is needed please advise me on howto get this information

    Thanks
