First of make sure Java is up to date, and also make sure you remove old java installments.
If you are using FF make sure you have java enabled and if your using IE you have the active x enabled for java.
Once you have done that you may check also your display settings for your monitor, mainly the refresh rate it is set at. Then check the display "accelerator", adjust accordingly
