RAID drives not showing in BOOT options
« on: February 26, 2010, 03:22:48 AM »
ASUS RAMPAGE II GENE motherboard
2 SATA drives in RAID 1

Hi, I am not sure if anyone can offer some helpful advice but here goes.
My PC has been going fine for about 6 months but this morning it spat the dummy and now wont boot and isn't showing a HDD in the BOOT options

HOW IT STARTED

This morning I started my PC and nothing happened.
I tried it again and this time it started but said "OVERCLOCKING FAILURE. Go to SETUP or F2 to set to default"

Thinking that this just referred to the oveclocking I pressed F2 to set to default

The machine started and ran fine for about 2 hours. Then it LOCKED UP(I have had lockup problems when going to the file menu in one program but as this is only in the one program and has only been happening since I installed WIN7 I assume its a software issue)

This time when it booted the first screen said CPU FAN FAILURE! F1 to continue
At this point I telephoned the shop that I bought it from.
The technician said that I should not have pushed F2 and then guided me through resetting the CMOS

However when I tried rebooting it stopped.

I checked the CMOS and discovered that under BOOT the only options where USB, DVD and Removable device ..... no HDD!!

I am unfamiliar with the RAID setup as the shop set it up for me.

Any help gratefully appreciated

Also can I place a RAID 1 HDD in a USB cradle and extract the data?

thanks
Michael
