    Computer doesn't recognize new hard disk
    « on: February 26, 2010, 09:06:45 AM »
    In an earlier post; Dell refuses to start after battery replacement. I removed one of the dell's hard disks and put it in my siemens/hitachi.starts up fine but doesn't show that there's another hard disk. Should i remove/move those whiter plastic 'bridges' to different pins to make it slave /master?

    It should be jumpered as slave if it is a secondary drive...

    Cabling:

    MB===================================Master=========Slave.

    Also...double check your primary drive...some need to be jumpered master/w slave when a 2nd drive is added...

    PS. You shouldn't try to boot to the 2nd drive since it came from another machine if you have a version of Windows newer than WinME.

      No...that is how the cable is setup inside the machine...
      motherboard============================master drive======then slave drive...

      Here is a picture of a common jumper setting:

      Keep in mind all drives are not setup the same way...
      Check the manuf. site for more info for each drive.
