    Adobe Acrobat Annoyances

    Yep.

I've downloaded the latest Acrobat Reader and guess what, it's a load of bloat!
It uses DDE while that service is deactivated by default for security reasons,
it tries to connect its plugins to online services, it communicates with some other things,
starts an extra process/set of threads and finally opens the pdf!!!

This all takes longer than 30 seconds. What were they thinking? Or is it just my computer?
I ended up using foxit reader.
Opens in 0.3 seconds! Awesome! That's the way it should be.

Anyways, any idea why adobe reader takes so long to open things, freezes some of its processes and fails to open to actual pdf until you end some processes or wait for 60 seconds? :/

You answered your own question when you said:

I have Adobe Reader 8 on my Win XP system and it's really not bad.  But, I think I'll avoid a later version of Adobe Reader and install Foxit Reader if I make any changes to my PDF reader.

I also have adobe 9, and there is a couple differences, but overall it is the same. Your computer might be slow, but my guess is that the program is bigger. My adobe won't update and takes forever if I have Kaspersky on :'(, or any other firewall. You can check your firewall settings, but it does suck, so I would just stick to your other reader!!! ;D
