I have a quick question about the Windows built in Disk Defragmenter utility

After a clean, fresh install of Windows XP Home SP3 on a new build. All windows security updates, etc installed. IE-8

Initially the first time I ran the defrag utility after getting it going, it told me I "needed to defrag".

Then with a follow up, just for good measure, defrag. It starts with

"Analysis is complete for: (C:)

You do not need to defragment this volume."

Then I continue on anyway. As I said, just for good measure.

It says;

"Defragmentation is complete for: (C:)

Some files on this volume could not be defragmented.
Please check the defragmentation report for the list of these files."

Then I view the Report, Under the block where it says "files that did not defragment"

Its blank.

Everything is smooth but this.

So do I have a problem or, just, do not defrag unless it tells you to do so?

Don't worry about it.

Personally, I defrag once a week (I do not look at the report afterwards). Others rarely defrag. Especially with NTFS it's not a big deal either way.

I've been using defraggler and like it better than the one that comes with Windows.

No worries.

PS. If you are really into sts and giggles after a clean install visit PCPitstop and let it tell you how screwed up that machine is...

Thanks for the quick responses.

I was thinking I was OK, but wanted to double check before I went any further, like installing, Microsoft Word and such other programs.


Patio, is that PCPitstop one of those programs that tells you have a 1000 problems, then it supposedly fixes them up, and they are back the next day.
