    Windows 7 Boot Crash
    « on: March 04, 2010, 07:16:57 PM »
So I installed a screen capture driver on my laptop....... successfully, and it required me to restart to complete the installation. I chose to "Restart Later". My laptop fell off my bed and shut off (how did it shut off, I have no idea). So when I tried to boot, it said "Starting Windows.." for a few seconds, then the BSoD flashed and then it shut off; process repeats.
    Preliminary measures I took:
    1. Booted from the installation CD to perform a "Repair". Successful, but no effect.
    2. Booted from the installation CD to perform a System Restore to BEFORE I installed the driver. Successful, but no effect.
2a. No other System Restore points appeared when I was *censored* sure I made 2 of them last month.
    3. Booted in Safe Mode to manually uninstall the driver. No effect.

Thanks to dual-booting, I'm not totally out of a computer, but it really sucks not having Windows 7 work because I, personally, dislike Vista; but I have no other option.. So, anyways, any suggestions on what I should/could do to fix my Windows 7?
    Some iTunes library huh?

      Here: http://www.splitmedialabs.com/vh-video-sdk/vh-screen-capture

I had it before I upgraded to the RTM, and it worked fine. I guess the pending reboot screwed me over.

Can you use F8 while booting Windows 7 and select "Disable automatic Reboot on System Failure"?

This will allow you to see the BSOD- report back on what it says.

Will do. Uhh I'm just curious, but is there a way to take a screenshot of it?

        **EDIT**
So, wow. While scrolling to select "Disable automatic reboot on system failure," I noticed "Use last known good boot configuration" (or whatever). I chose the option you told me to first, and on the BSoD, there was an error relating to "vidstub.sys"; its quite obvious that that driver error was an effect of the pending reboot before. So then I [manually] rebooted and selected "Use last known good boot configuration" and it booted normally. My custom theme was a little screwed up (patched files were restored) but I re-did it. I required a reboot for AVG updates and the patching of the theme files, so yeah. It rebooted without error after that too.
        So I'm all good :D
Thanks a million, though! I totally didn't attempt that yesterday xD
