    How to create a partition

    I'm using a drive that has an XP recovery partition its a 74GB HDD with an 8GB recovery partition and i cant figure out how to create a 40GB partition to install windows 7 on... I'm in the disk mangement and i cant figure out what to do.

    I don't understand. If you're in Disk Management then Windows is already installed. EXACTLY what are you trying to do?

      I have windows XP which i would like to keep, but i want Windows 7 on a different partition (having multiple OS's on one HDD) But i dont know how to partition the drive to look like its a whole other 40GB hard drive

          "o create a new partition, right-click unallocated space on the basic disk where you want to create the partition, and then click New Partition." yeah i read that one before and it got me no where lol

          Your primary drive is probably c: drive correct? In disk management right-click in the blank space area of c: drive in the bottom half of the screen and choose "create partition"

          How much free space is on this drive ? ?
          Have you considered just adding another drive ? ?

          I'm not suggesting this can't be done at this point...however there are advantedges to having a dual-boot setup on seperate drives...

          This might be a little off topic but reading this made me think of this question.  Does BIOS use the hard disk of the computer for anything?  For example, when you turn on the computer does it look there for stored information or stored instructions?

          The BIOS searches for Booting instructions from a variety of places, and often it has HDD as the last one on the list.  It only looks at the MBR:
