Windows XP can not create MS-DOS boot diskettes.

Did you make a boot disk or an emergency repair disk?

Did you put the disk in the slot and boot to a drive?

You can download 6 bootable files for Windows XP from http://www.microsoft.com. These are not MS-DOS diskettes.

I think you mean this>   ASR wizard and take a back up of the files. You can create a disk for starting up the system in MS-DOS mode by right clicking on the floppy disk icon, selecting the format option and then checking Create a Disk to start in MS_DOS only option.
you will still need the winxp install disk?

XP is not like '98 and ME. You either need to use the Recovery Console from the XP CD or, if you don't have an XP CD you can try using RC.ISO burned to an 80mm Mini CD.
