screen is too large for dell windows xp laptop

Hello
I am using a Dell Inspiron B130 windows xp laptop. I did a download by accident... long story. Some type of computer optimizer. After I did this my computer screen is way to big for my actual screen. I have tried to move the resolution (ex 800x600 32) around and restarting the computer but nothing seems to be working. please if anyone knows how to make my computer screen the right size it would be greatly appreciated!

1. Make sure you have the correct drivers installed for your monitor.
2. Manually change the screen settings using the buttons on the physical monitor.

Ignore his post. Have you tried system restore?

Control Panel - System Properties - System Restore. Choose a restore point just before the problem appeared.

What was the file you downloaded?

not sure... i have already removed them. it was a system optimizer and a system check. i was doing an upgrade on AVG and it took me to these downloads.. i didnt read before i did them.. thought they were part of AVG free upgrade virus protection.
