    Capacitor going bad?
    « on: March 20, 2010, 01:55:06 PM »
Recently, an intermittent high-pitched noise has been coming from somewhere on my motherboard; I have to restart for it to go away. I've swapped power supplies, so I know it's not that. For some reason, it's almost guaranteed to happen while watching flash videos for a few hours. Also, whenever the ear-bleeding squeal starts, my onboard audio stops working. The frequency is too great for me to pinpoint with my earholes exactly where it's coming from though. Is a whole new motherboard the only/cheapest solution to this?

I had one that did the same thing; it was the audio card.  Since yours is onboard audio, you'll have to replace the motherboard.  Depending on the cpu & memory, you want one that uses the same.

Does system BIOS allow you to disable the on-board audio?  Perhaps you could replace it with an add-on card.
