I play second life and I love it.  I get off on running a business and making it work.  But anything you can think of, you can find it in sl.  You can do or be anything you want to do or be.  You can be a premium member for $70 a year but you dn't have to. The only benefit to being a premium member is that you can own property.  But you can have a free account and rent your property from another resident.

If you decide to join sl, look me up and I'll be happy to show you around and help you get started. My sl name is Keaira Karas.

                I highly disapprove SL.
It's for dark freaks who don't have a life or people who are not social.
True, there are some real social people in there but..
Also don't play WoW. There are WoW-disinfection centers especially for the reason
that WoW destroys your life. You won't eat/sleep/live properly anymore.
I recommend getting some good friends in real life and having fun in real life
instead of this sad case of a virtual world game.

That pretty much sums it up.

The reason that games like "second life" exist is because people believe that the various things they can do in the game are unattainable goals in real life. If you want to own a restaurant, you can do that in real life. And considering all the attempts at "realism" in these games (for example, doing anything useful takes ages) I wouldn't be surprised if eventually you actually need to do more work to open a business within this "second-life" world.

I played "world of warcraft" once, at a friends. That game sucks, and I honestly do not see the attraction. and yet in a curious twist my Main Chrono Trigger saved game has clocked over 50 hours of gameplay... and that's forgetting the number of new game+'s I've done with it.
It is quite easy to assert, therefore, that the main attraction for MMORPGs and similar games is simply the simulation of a social life that they provide- It's not the gameplay, since it makes absolutely no sense. I mean, it's pretty neat to be able to walk around and <know> that the other creatures/people who pass are actually other people somewhere in the world, but I mean, get real- you can walk down any street in real life and they are right there, don't see how that is any less fascinating. Although I suppose it that instance getting "PK happy" will probably land you in Jail.

If you want to be a proper computer recluse at least stick with IRC, at least that way one can hopefully work on one's typing skills, too.

Ahhh! but here's the thing! a good portion of people who play it have nothing to lose in that regard ;)

The difference is that in real life you have the following risks in addressing a stranger:

                  - getting beat up
                  - getting ignored
                  - fear

Also, big fear exists in this world. People don't have dynamic social homeostasis (psych term for balance of being aligned to people and protecting yourself from people). Today people are too much to the 'protect myself' side. The world is a treachurous place and you have to watch your step and can't trust most people. What happens if you get a fight or don't like someone? Simple, you put them on block. No risks involved. Unless that person is in your class! ROFL! Anyway.. those are mostly the reasons. Simplicity, no risks.
They can skip their fear of confronting a person, of talking to a person with included risks. In a social game, they can simply whisper or approach or whatever, nothing bad happens.

I've spent about 10 years on IRC and I've pretty much stopped using it apart from some channels.
                  Reasons:

                  - waste of time, mostly unproductive (only productive for me when I'm asking questions and learning)
                  - people there are absolute **** (not going to say the word)
                  - arrogance (especially in programming channels)
                  - pretty much tired of their ignorance and getting banned for it

So yeah. There you have it. =P

Item of type level number. It works, or neither do yours.

                    Noun Of verb/adjective

SwitchBlade Of Slicing (Noun of verb)
Shoe of kicking (noun of verb)

"Armour" is never a verb, but clothing can be used as one, sort of.

                    "type" never comes into it.
