When I load windows 98 without the boot floppy, I get 'missing or corrupted files.'These include c:/windows/himem.sys,c:/windows/dblbuff.sys, and c:/windows/isfhlp.sys.Then I get the 'unable to load Windows, cannot find win.com'. All I am trying to do is reload windows 98. But I can't do so.

Make sure that the CD you are using is scrupulously clean. You can wash them in luke-warm water with two drops of mild soap solution mixed in and a soft sponge, then gently dry with a clean linen cloth.

Doing this simple task very often solves the problem of read errors from the CD and ensures a smooth install.

If you still get read errors try copying the CD using NERO with DATA verification. Not direct CD to CD but copy to the hard-drive first.

You'll need to borrow another computer of course.
