Acer laptop with strange bootup ideocyncrasies
« on: March 31, 2010, 01:00:17 PM »
Acer laptop, Windows XP operating system:

Laptop will boot up in safe mode.

In normal mode...
After the Windows XP logo disappears, when the cursor should appear, the screen goes black with faint vertical lines.  When I move the mouse, one vertical line moves left and right across the screen.

If I reboot and start moving the mouse right after the XP logo disappears, the computer will boot up normally.

If I connect an external monitor, the computer will boot up normally, without messing with the mouse at all.  If I disconnect the external monitor after it boots, everything works okay.

Any Acer gurus out there who can help with this idiosyncrasy?  What would cause this anomaly?
