started with xp loop now instalation loop
    « on: April 06, 2010, 01:59:13 PM »
I have a compaq presario v4145ea laptop had it for a few years now. had probs in the past and re-installed windows no probs,
the prob at the moment started last week  with a bsod with the following

    0x0000007e (0xc0000005,0xb9f8207e,0xba4cf58,0xba4cf224)
    acpi.sys address b9f8207e base at b9f59000, datestamp 480252b1

the day before i updated the display driver from the compaq site all seemed well as the laptop was on and off during the day(turned off when not in use)

after the bsod i restarted the laptop using F8 i had the choice safe mode, safemode with etc..
i tried all options even last working all it does done was power off the laptop and restart it..

i then tried booting from xp disc it fired up in the usual blue screen listing drivers it is loading across the bottom then turns off and back on again.

so i pulled the harddrive put it on another pc via usb adaptor scanned it ,,nothing found saved what i needed and then formated it. then put it back in laptop hoping to install to clean h/d.

same prob gets part way through loading the drivers and then restarts again.
i also tried copying a working version on xp from a pc using true image acronus 10 which has worked on other pc's for me... this got me back to options of safe mode and last known..again no matter which i choose it turns off and on the laptop.

i'd be gratefull for any help on this as i've been pulling my hair out for 8 days now searching the net..

    Hello,

On this forum there number of experts that can help you go to the basic steps of doing troubleshooting on your computer. Here are some additional items of interest.
One. Have you had recently any problems with lap top battery? Have you replaced the battery recently? Are you certain there is nothing wrong with the battery charger?
Two. Have you checked the CMOS battery? That is a little battery that looks like a nickel and a found somewhere on the motherboard on most computers.
Three. Do you have any basic diagnostic software? For example, there is a free memory tests available from Microsoft. You have to run the test for quite a while to chase out hardware problems. It's more than just a case of the memory failing, there can be other things besides just the memory that are getting overheated and not working right. The memory test might find it.
    Windows Memory Diagnostic
Download it with your good machine.
Burn it to a CD and boot it up on the problem machine.
Let it run for fan hour.
