Computer keeps shutting off Please help
    « on: April 07, 2010, 10:32:41 PM »
Hello i'm not too sure where to post this because i'm not sure what the problem is.  I am running windows 7 and the computer keeps shutting off at random moments.  It used to be before windows would boot up but now it does it right before the desktop shows up.  Also the more i fix it will stay on for a couple of hours but then it shuts off and won't boot up again.  I have replaced the power supply, reinstalled windows a bunch of times finally just formatted the hard drive from scratch and reinstalled it.  It doesn't find any viruses, when it stays on long enough to run a virus scan.  I'd greatly appreciate any help that anybody could offer.  I know a lot about programming but not an enormous amount about technical issues.  Once again i really appreciate any help at all.

So it didn't shut off while you were formatting and installing?

Can you boot to a cd? If so, try that and see how long it will run.

When you try to turn the computer back on after it shuts down what happens exactly? Does it get any power at all? Can you hear the fans spinning? Does the power led light up? Can you access BIOS?

yes i can see everything it is a glass case all of the leds are lit up and the fans are all spinning it gets to different points.  Sometime it will get right after you get the option to chose where to boot from, sometimes windows 7 logo appears and it will shut down right before the desktop would show up.  And rarely it will run for a while say maybe 5 minutes and then shut off.

Find your hard drive manufacturer on the page that I linked. Download the file and create a boot CD. Boot to the disk and let it examine your hard drive.

If you don't know which brand of hard drive you have, you can usually see it in BIOS. If not, you may have to pull the drive and read the sticker on the top. Be very careful to ground yourself to the computer's case the whole time you are working inside - static electricity can fry your motherboard!

You have to burn it to a disk and then boot to that disk.

Ok yea it's not letting me burn it onto a disc it doesn't have an option through imgburn or on the file.  The file that i have on my desktop is seatools_enterprise_install.exe  Not sure if i did something wrong or what but i tried a couple of tutorials online to burn a boot disc and it won't let me use that file.

May be your system shut down due to CPU overheating. Install a program to monitor your CPU Thermometer 1.0. May be your heating sink is gone. If it is so then, change your heating sink. Change your processor fan and use a high RPM fan.

Sounds like kristain is right, you are probably overheating your CPU. Clean out all the dust from your fan.
