USB Spliter
« on: April 17, 2010, 03:46:58 PM »
Does anyone know of a device that can switch a USB keyboard and mouse to another computer? I've got my modern PC and my retro one hooked up to the same stuff (speakers, monitor, power, etc) except the keyboard and mouse. So if I want to use the other PC I have switch them over (which obviously is a pain). Now as I have every other connection covered I don't need a full KVM box.

Long story short is there such a thing as a USB only KVM box (i.e. no VGA)?

Have you considered remotely logging into the 2nd PC?

No, I'm going for simplicity. Emulation always becomes overly complicated.

For a printer however it may suit your needs perfectly...

Wouldn't two of the switches do what the OP wants to do?  One to switch the keyboard and the other to switch the mouse.

This ones perfect! http://www.everythingusb.com/hardware/index/Belkin_4x4_USB_Peripheral_Switch.htm

Now, does any one know of a model that costs less than $100 lol.

It may have to do. I can't find any 2x2 switchers and 4x4 cost twice that of two 2x1's.

I think 2 of these will do:  ;D
It's still half the price of a KVM box. The only problem is that I have no idea which version of Windows 98 I had installed.

By the way how do I create link words like patio just now, instead of stating the link?

Nvm worked it out. Cool you can hyper link through smileys lol.

Cheaper idea, two of these on the desk! And I'll just swap the conveniently placed cable over.
