    Sweex card reader
    « on: April 18, 2010, 05:59:07 AM »
I've got a bit of a strange situation with my card reader. I've got one of em 5 in 1 card readers.

The problem is that it doesn't see my micro sd card when i put it in. There's a light on that shows it's got power and is working.
The only thing i can do it disconnect the reader and reconnect it to recognize my card. But sadly, this only works till the next restart of my comp.

    Can anyone help me plz..

I think the slot (sd reader) that you're using the sd card in is defective.  I've got the same problem with my SD card reader.  I have to fight with it to get the computer to recognize it..

That wouldn't seem logic to me since the slot works perfectly after i disconnect and reconnect it...

I had a defective one as well with similar problems. It wasn't until I changed the computer that it was in until I realised just how defective it was. The second PC it was hooked up to refused to pass the post until it was removed again.

Do they make any other sort? Mine was internal USB (hooked up straight to one of the USB expansion ports on the motherboard) However if it had been external I seriously doubt that it would have been any different.

All card readers are USB, some are internal & some are external.
      This might be the one:

Of course there is, but no Card Readers use any of those interfaces.

      http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820132024

Connects to the internal USB header for the card reader; internal SATA for eSATA, and various pin headers for fan control. The card reader component is a USB device.

This probably works the same way. Can't find any info on how it connects internally, so I suspect it takes a single Molex connector (for the odd use of one externally) as well as being connected to an Internal USB header.

Either way, the card reader component in both is a USB device- wether the rest of the component supports eSATA or firewire or fan speeds whatever is rather redundant.

If it were external, it wouldn't be a problem to disconnect and reconnect, but unfortunately it's internal. I can't go screw my pc open everytime i use the *censored* thing. Nobody knows what could cause this?

OK, now we know it's an internal card reader.  Is the microSD card microSD-HC?  If it's more than 2GB, it's an HC, which may not be supported by your card reader.

It's a micro-sd card of 8 gigs. It's supported since it works as soon as i disconnect and reconnect the card reader. It just doesn't make sense to me ://
