    Problem with broadband
    « on: May 16, 2010, 07:47:29 PM »
Here's the thing, i can be busy going about my business on Facebook and when i refresh the page i sometimes get an error message from google chrome saying "Oops! Google Chrome could not find www.facebook.com". (It's happening right now infact)
At first i thought this was a facebook problem until i tried to access the Dell website and recieved the same error message.
I haven't found any other sites this happens with, it could be random.

Sorry for the wording of the question.

    Can anyone help me please?

Edit: I have just found this happens with Paypal.com as well

Sounds like a DNS error to me.

Set up your computer (Or router if you can) to use an alternate free DNS.

    I would recommend Google's DNS: http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using.html or OpenDNS http://www.opendns.com/

Both are free, both are fast, both are very easy to set up, and both should fix your problem. It's just a simple IP change in a filed on your computer or router.

Hey Joe, who is your ISP and how do you connect?  Cable, DSL. etc.

        whats a DSL?

DSL internet comes over the phone line. TalkTalk is a UK DSL internet provider.

First I would phone Talktalk tech support.

To be fair, I'd make the changes to use OpenDNS anyway.

I had loads of minor problems with Virgin Broadband (not cable), and since then I've only used OpenDNS at home.

The way I see it, I'd rather rely on someone who's sole purpose is to provide DNS to do so for me, instead of my ISP.

The "add ons" that OpenDNS offer are also pretty cool.
