new laptop

i have just bought a laptop but i don't know how to get on the internet .do i need another modem .i am already on broadband(sky) i have there modem.do i need other cables.please help.

You'll need either a Wireless Router or another Ethernet cable to connect the laptop to the current router.

Thanks carbon.tried it with ethernet cable,OK got on internet .but when i unplug the cable everything go's off .
how can i get on the net when i am not plugged in.doe's it need to be programmed to my pc.

Morning Carbon. thanks for replying the laptop is a refurbished Dell D520.  i have a P C and i am on the internet ,
i have broadband (SKY) i have a sky modem.i also have a ethernet cable. i was reading yesterday about a network key.
i didn't know what that meant but i have since found one on the back of my modem  but i am still at a loss as to,
what to do with it all .dos'e any of this help.

Okay you have a modem, but you need to purchase a wireless router that plugs into the modem to access the internet wirelessly.
