i am trying to set  a new hard disk and change the old one. Western digital 80GB. i connected it properly but when I try to boot from windows XP it doesn't recognise the hard disk and the intallation of windows stop. how i can overcome this?

1. Set the jumpers
2. Make certain it is detected in the BIOS
3. Make certain that the BIOS supports the (size of) the HDD.

If it a SATA HDD, you will have to load drivers by pressing F6 during initialization of Windows XP installation.

The trick is......leave the old hard drive in place.....add the new drive as a slave....and transfer files across to it.< file transfer wizard>.. then if you wish you can format the drive..... you could take out the cmos battery for ten mins....to clear it......if you take this route be careful.....esd.... most use an iso drive image to assist changing h/d s
