    External hard drive not working
    « on: May 08, 2010, 06:45:48 PM »
I accidently used the wrong plug to my external hard drive using an adaptor that outputs 19v instead of 12v. Now the hard drive isn't working, is there anyway of fixing it easily or will I have to take it into a repair store?

    Thank you

There's a good chance that you may have fried the drive itself.

Was this a home made external drive or did you buy it in the enclosure?

It's a Maxtor. Not home-made. Does that mean there may be no chance of recovering anything off it?

You could always attempt to slave the drive to see if anything can be recovered.
