Memory Usage

Hi to all.
my wifes Laptop is a Acer Extensa 5635Z, 320gig HD, 2 gig Ram.
How much acceptable ram should be used with all progs closed
and only Windows Home Premium running.
It seems it does not matter if progs are closed or not
its using 45 - 50 % most of the time, I only know this cause she
got a gadget/gauge on the desktop!
is this normal

Yes this is normal. Windows uses memory which is not needed by anything else, and releases it when demanded by a program.
