    Can not do anything.
    « on: May 16, 2010, 09:39:01 AM »
    Hi
I tried to update my drivers on my Lenovo laptop running windows XP 32bit. I now can not run any programs everything comes up error program could not start. I tried a restore but it won't run. I tried to copy my documents to a flash drive but it says drive needs to be formatted and it won't let me format the flash drive . I tried to burn a cd/dvd it won't do that. tried restarting it multiple times sometimes programs work sometimes they don't. Can not get internet access either and if I do it does not download. I need to get the files off the drive or I would just reload windows. I've tried to print them and that does not work. Please HELP. Thanks

The problem is this is a laptop and I don't have a second hard drive.

Why not just do a repair installation of XP?

Will the computer start and operate in "safe mode"?

Yes,Safe mode is a Windows maintenance mode where only the bare minimum of drivers are loaded. You don't have access to CD ROMs, printers, or other non-essential devices.

To get to Safe mode, press the F8 key when Windows starts to boot. You have to do this BEFORE you see the first "Windows" screen. You can start tapping away as soon as I get by the BIOS startup screen or the manufacturer's splash screen. Experiment and you'll get it.

It won't let me run in safe mode tried it freezes up at one of the drivers. Thanks for the help. After about 50 power ups and downs I was able to download the documents to a flash drive. Reloaded XP and upgraded to Windows 7.
