    What is the difference between IP that we get from sites like  http://www.whatismyip.com/   and  IP we write in
     internet protocol ( tcp/ip ) properties

    That site tells your modem's IP address.

    The IP you put in your computer's settings is the IP your computer will use to connect to your modem or router.

    All devices connected to your modem/router use the same modem IP for their external IP. Then when stuff gets sent to the modem/router the router sends it back to the internal IP of the computer that needs that info.

    whatismyip.com gives you the outside IP as seen from www.  The other is the IP address is the inside IP of your computer as it pertains to the DHCP scheme of your router.

      what will be the subnet of the outside ip ??

      also how my friend will connect to my computer when i have multiple computers on one dsl connection

      if i tell him my outside ip, to which computer, will he be connected

        Look into port-forwarding.

        The "outside" IP address will be the IP of your modem/router, which will then forward traffic on different ports accorindly to items on your "inside" network.
