Yeah, Microsoft is annoying how it plans on hiding system files and even viruses from ya... It's one of the first things I fix.

I simply browse 'My Computer' > Tools > Folder Options (if tools isn't showing press ALT to toogle)

Under view tab >

1. Show Hidden files, folders and drives (toggle on)

2. Hide extensions for known file types (untick this! viruses learnt to add double extensions to confuse users)

3. Hide Protected Operating System files (Recommended... to untick this, as Microsoft just wants to hide from ya even if you do know what your doing, yeah, yeah, dangerous if you don't know what ya up to)

Click Apply, then OK

Now you need to be logged in as an Admin or have Admin rights to view those hidden files or they will still remand hidden.

So the basic way still not working??? Hack it!

Start >> Run >> (type) regedit
Note: Be careful in the Register Editor, back it up by exporting the folder/keys before modifying and know what you are doing! Don't mess anything your not sure on. You are now god in a world of mess, lol.

find this key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced. Go to the rightside of the window, where the values are. Find the value "Hidden" . Rightclick it and modify it to 1.

If that failed - You can also try to Start >> run >> (type) sfc /scannow

Still nothing? Final option, Advance tweaking:

Backup these keys first! Check these keys are the same or save the content to a notepad file, rename with .REG extension and run...

Note: The threat of a possible virus could be keeping it from showing. I know of an autorun virus that affects the above mentioned registry-keys in order to hide itself. Scan your computer and ensure it's clean.

Step 1: type "cmd" in Run
Step 2: Type these commands

> cd\
> dir a*.inf /a

Now u can see if there is an autorun.inf file virus to clean or remove. It should be "Files not found" on your hard drives. If infected ensure you also check and clean flash drives, etc, it spreads to all devices including iPods, etc.
