If it stalls in safe mode, after loading several things, it may be a hardware failure or a very complicated  configuration. Often a special graphics device.

Bust could be anything.

I was wondering if buying a "Recovery Disk" would also repair this problem. I can order one for $26 and have it shipped for free. The site says it is for my exact computer. I don't know if these disks do repair or just allow you to recover your files somehow. Is there a site where it is cheaper/free? Is there somewhere I can download and burn it myself? Or booting from a flash drive with the repair files on it? Will someone who knows take a look at what they have to offer and tell me if it is worth a try? I would post a link but I've already pissed off Allen so you can figure it out if you think real hard ( ok, just add ".com" to what I am looking for)   Thanks, Phil

I have purchased just like this off of eBay and they appear to be legitimate discs that were made for war by the manufacturer. If you go to Dell and ask for a single CD they will charge about $25. On eBay vendors are selling them for about $10 each plus shipping charges. Look around and you might find one or two that have free shipping. There is no problem using these discs, if you have the Certificate of Authority. you should have no problem using one of these CDs on a stock Dell Computer. If you change the motherboard the certificate is not valid.

You can't run a Repair Install from almost all OEM CD's...

I checked out ebay and the disks on there are not specifically "XP Media Edition". Does that matter? I do have a Win XP Home SP1 disk from an OLD Inspiron 1000 lap top. Could that cd possibly repair my machine? I think I tried it once but don't remember the outcome, but it's still broke so I guess not. What about the bios approach being discussed earlier? We got away from that subject without me ever figuring out how to actually get into the bios portion. How hard is it to reinstall/  update the bios and is there any reason to think it will work. BTW, I'll GIVE this Belkin KVM switch to anyone who can solve my problem. It worked great until I tried to do without it!!

Media Edition CD's are extremely rare....an XP CD will not do it i'm afraid.

I don't know what you are talking about. I posted this here (XP forum) and the hardware forum because I think it relates to both. I DID NOT post this 2 more times on this site. You, sir, are a nuisance. If you would spend more time helping people and less time fabricating untruths, this and a lot more threads would be closed and just here for reference for other people having this issue. Personally, I think you know a lot less about computers than the rules of the forum.  There, now run out and delete the thread so NOBODY gets any benefit from this exchange.

You may want to contact MS for a replacement Media Center CD....they may be your only hope.
When it came out consumers were rarely issued a CD so they are indeed rare.
