    i just wanted to know is there any other way to save my setting manually OS XP

    like when i turn off or restart my os xp it saves my settings and then turns off

      like when i modify my Quick lunch or some other settings then suddenly the power fails and the computer turns off unsafe so i wanted to know can i save settings manually

      suddenly the power fails and the computer turns off unsafe
      To avoid that, get an Uninterruptible power supply.

        Make sure Sydstem Restore is on...

        You should also look into disc imaging software apps for solid backups if your power is that flakey.

        I use Acronis...not Free

        I couldn't agree more. You (and everyone) should use disc imaging software on a regular basis.

          It's writing all modified pages containing file data to their respective file. If the setting is specified to clear the page file on shutdown, that is done when the system says "saving system settings" as well. Of course it doesn't do this if you are just logging off.


          The relevant point here is that "modified pages containing file data" will almost certainly include the user profile registry data- this just so happens to be where explorer and windows saves the settings you specified.

          You cannot "force" this to happen without logging out and then logging back in.
          I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.
