    Blue Screen (Sort of Desperate!)
    « on: June 11, 2010, 01:45:01 PM »
My friend just lost her laptop (Windows XP) to what appears to be some sort of a virus. Every time she turns on her computer, it shows the "Windows did not restart normally" screen and gives the options for how to retry starting the machine. (Regular, Safe Mode Etc). This is where the real problem starts.

Every option she can choose leads to a blue screen. This blue screen says something about shutting down because of a possible virus, and to try rebooting. This goes back to square one and she cannot get out of the cycle.

I am sorry for the lack of info, and if needed I will try to get more. This friend of mine isn't too technically inclined, so the details are still a little hazy.

The guys on the WinXP board said someone here might be able to help. Also, something about a Linux/Ubuntu OS going in the CD/DVD drive. Ideas?

Overall, is there any way these kinds of issues can be resolved? Any help anyone could lend is SO appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

Thanks, Allan, for the reply...but I am not sure what you posted that link for. I read the entire page, and the only thing I can think of is that you are looking for logs, which I don't think I can provide. The computer won't boot properly even in safe mode, so how can I access any of the listed programs? If I am mistaken, and there is a way to create the logs you are looking for other than any of the things I can think of, please help. Otherwise, clarification on the meaning of you previous post would be helpful.

      Thanks.

Go to this link to create a Rescue CD or to this site to create a Rescue USB. Carefully follow all the instructions for whichever method you choose.
