seeing as registry cleaners are not recommended, where did the very first registry cleaner even come from?
From someone who realized that the average pc user knows very little about the registry and has been advised to be very careful in altering/amending the registry contents.
The opportunity to make a buck was too hard to ignore hence the plethora of registry "cleaners" which are offered for sale but do absolutely nothing to improve the performance of any pc, and may damage the registry possibly beyond repair, the result of which is that registry cleaners have a well-earned don't-go-near status.
Having said that I must admit to have run a couple of registry things, one named as a Registry Optimizer which comes with the well-respected Erunt registry backup program and the other simply named Registry which is part of the renowned CCleaner. I have not been able to measure any improvement in performance following their execution.
