Recovery disc?

Is there anything on it that is absolutely necessary? My Sony vaio crashed and the hard drive was replaced and I was asked if I had a recovery disc which I don't. But I was wondering if I could use this as an opportunity to upgrade to windows 7? Any drivers I might need are on Sonys website so Is there gonna be anything I need on the disc?

The recovery disc is just that - a recovery disc. If you want to upgrade to a different OS then the recovery disc would be useless. Just make sure your system is W7 compatible.

So basically the only thing on the recovery disc is gonna be windows vista and the drivers? There aren't  gonna be any other files on it that I would need?

I don't know what was on the recovery disc, but if you are upgrading to a different OS there was nothing on it you need.

Awesome thanks I figured Sony will probably charge me quite a bit for a recovery disc and if I'm gonna spend the money I might as well spend it upgrading to windows 7
