Windows 7 Drivers installation

Hi I just installed windows 7 on my computer and the first question i have is how do i know which drivers I have installed and which i don't? I know I have no sound driver but I'm unsure of the display. Second. Will windows xp driver install seds work on win 7 or not. Because when i installed xp I needed display and sound so i have them technically. And last I heard that windows 7 installes drivers on it's own once connected to the net how do i make this happen?

Open Control Panel/Device Manager....any with yellow ! or ?'s need drivers...

1) You need Windows 7 drivers
2) Look in Device Manager to see which drivers are installed for each device. Worst case, you can always download and install the most current drivers for your audio and vidoe cards (get them from the OEM websites, not from Microsoft Update)

ok thanks patio I am only missing now an PCI parallel port a PCU serial port and some unknown device I got the sound working thought. And Allan what do you mean by OEM websites? I'm new to Win 7 so I'm a bit confused. I have been using XP, Ubuntu 9.10 and mac osx 10 so once again little confused but thanks again for that quick reply

First, you did not install the chipset driver. You need to go to the website of your computer (or motherboard) manufacturer and download and install the correct chipset driver for your system (Windows 7 compatibile).

OEM website is the manufacturer of the specific hardware (the video card, audio card, etc). Get the drivers from there.

Couldn't agree more....without the proper chipset drivers installed other components may not accept drivers and Win7 may have issues running properly...

and if Chipset drivers are refusing to work because the 64 bit claims its really 32?

This is your 2nd Post confusing 32 bit with 64bit drivers...
Please clarify.

If you are running a 64bit OS you should be using 64bit drivers...
If they are not available then don't blame Microsoft...blame the hardware manufacturers for not being on the ball...
