i have no video out on my computer with the exception of the vga port for the monitor. the hdtv has hdmi and s-video inputs. what is the best way for me to hook up

It won't be easy and it won't be cheap.
Considering, that you have to convert analog signal (VGA) to digital (HDMI), the final effect may not be worth it at at all.

Or you could change out your video card to one with a HDMI output.  Check out Amazon, Newegg, etc.
