    HP Pavilion's a1330n
    Windows XP Home Edition
    Service pack 3

    Ok let me just state that i front know that I in the right forum :P

    This problem started after the computer got a virus. It was bogus antivirus download that  basically took over the machine.
     I have remove the virus  successfully.
    Now when I try to connect to the internet on the  stated machine, I get the 
    "Internet explorer cannot display the webpage"

    When I  run diagnose connection problems   the results tells me there is a problem with  Winsock.

     I have try to use a repair tool from MS to no avail.... :||x

    Any suggestions/ ideas  fixes?????

    In IE go to Tools /Options/Connections/Lan settings....uncheck "use proxy" and re-boot...
    Chances are you're still infected...

      Thanks Patio,

       I did check it.  The "use proxy" box was unchecked
       When I open tools, I check to make sure that "work offline" is not checked.
       I am running a full system scan now with Malwarebytes'.....  just to male sure it virus/malware free as i stated ealier... The virus name was one of the many bogus/fake antivirus program by the name of Defense center if that helps any.

        According to malwarebytes, the computer is infection free. NO virus /malware or other unwanted programs  found. Anu other ideas?

          I'm ahead of you :) and nothing found. (scanned with Superantispyware)
          I've rebooted and running again...

           Reading about the virus it had, and how it affects winsock.... I'm thinking that some of the regetries entries has been change/alter or deleted....

          That's because you're the person who posted it...your session ID with Google won't be the same as my session so when the URL realises that a session is already set it will give a 403 forbidden error.

                THx Patio...

                  after trying every option, I  decided that my best option  was to use the built in system recovery... 
                 ONce I backed up all the pics and docs... it was repair in less than 30 mins....
