Touch pad on an Acer Laptop (or maybe any laptop?)
    « on: July 14, 2010, 01:13:30 PM »
Can someone answer a general question please.
Have got my hands on an Acer laptop for just a few days only, and it has the touch pad with the three buttons underneath (cor it's really weird, as l've always ever been used to a mouse).
Now l move my finger gently over the touch pad to try and get the pointer over to certain icons on the desktop and as this passes over icons, either some get fired up or other programs that l've never even requested just start up.
    It's driving me nuts!
Does this happen on all touchpads then?

sounds like you just aren't used to the "Tap to click "functionality. if you are <too> gentle then it might interpret you clicking and doubleclicking a lot as well.

You can disable tap to click and see if that helps.

      Thanks very much BC.
Googled it as l've never heard of that before and it was really interesting.
      That could explain it all!
Blimey, glad l wasn't listening to music at the time. Couple of taps in time to the music and l could have deleted and restored the system before l even new it!!!!!!
Glad this was only a loan and is being returned. Will stick with ye old trusted mouse on my tower system.
Thanks again for the quick reply.

          Hi all,
Rightly or wrongly, suppose l'll keep it in this post as opposed to a totally new one.
BC - Your advice worked a treat. Touchpad is now brill!
ST - Cor blimey matey. A bit Desperate Dan here, so how's about the Dandy then or could l be a bit Beryl in Peril here? (ha ha).
Anyway, l digress so one last question.
This laptop is running Panda AV security. and a Panda Face appears on the bottom right of the taskbar. (fair enough) However, the panda face also appears on the bottom left of the taskbar too!
Don't need the double panda (!) and don't want to screw the laptop up too much as it is going back soon, thank god!
How do l get rid of the icons in the lower left of the taskbar or, move them over to the icons on the lower right.
I should know this but l've gone absolutely brain dead! Sorry!
          Kind Regards

If it's in the area near your start button, that's the quick launch bar. simply right click the panda face there and choose delete. If you change your mind for whatever reason you can recover it from the recycle bin, but if it's in the quick launch it's probably just a shortcut for the AV program anyway.
