How do I connect my Samsung speakers to my tv so that they play all the time?

I recently bought a new tv, along with a dvd player and speaker system.

How do I connect those speakers to my tv so that they are in use all the times and not just when I'm using the dvd player?
Currently the dvd player/speakers are connected via hdmi...though they dont play when im in normal tv mode or playing xbox 360?
How do i have them so they are in use the whole time, liek with xbox 360, tv mode etc etc.
